At Campus Corps Painters, we believe that a quality and thorough preparation process is crucial to the success of any paint job. That being said, we pay special attention to the preparation process on every home that we paint. Our preparation process includes:
EXTERIOR
- Washing- In order to ensure proper paint adhesion, we wash all surfaces prior to painting. Washing will be achieved with copious amounts of water, rags, and/or Tri-Sodium Phosphate as necessary. For some jobs, a high pressure power wash is ideal to remove soil and/or peeling paint from your home. Also, some jobs may require a mildew wash, so that mildew growth is properly removed prior to painting.
- Tarping- No painting will begin until dropcloths are in place below and adjacent to work areas.
- Scraping- All loose and peeling paint is thoroughly hand scraped in order to provide a firm substrate for the new paint.
- Puttying- All loose putty is removed and replaced with fresh putty that will remain elastic for a number of years.
- Caulking- We seal and protect areas of potential heat loss and moisture seepage including windows, door frames, and post/pillar bases. Caulking that is loose to the touch will be removed and replaced. Caulking is not to be done under laps of siding or eaves as it inhibits moisture ventilation.
- Priming- All bare wood and metal is primed with appropriate primers in order to seal all surfaces to be painted.
INTERIOR

Tarping- No painting will begin until dropcloths are in place below and adjacent to work areas.

Clear surfaces being painted- This includes removing pictures from walls as well as removing drapes and shades from windows. All furniture will be moved to the center of the room and covered with plastic tarp. Also, all light plates and switch plates are removed and replaced.
- Taping- Any lines that need to be kept clean such as baseboards, trim, and carpet lines will be carefully covered with painters tape.

Patching- All nail holes and cracks will be sealed with patching plaster. The patched areas will then be sanded smooth and primed prior to painting.

Drywall Repair- Oftentimes, because of severe cracks or water damage, drywall may also be contracted to be replaced. Old and damaged drywall will be replaced, then taped mudded and sanded smooth prior to repainting.
